Whether you are looking to finally eliminate that nagging pain, return to normal activity after an injury or get through your weekly pick-up game pain free, Summit Spine and Sport care can help you reach your goals. Our treatment styles combines five key components:
Scar tissue is laid down and creates adhesions in the tissue. Scar tissue decreases the ability of a muscle to normally contract and/or lengthen, leading to a decrease in range of motion.
Subconsciously, your body adapts to help reduce increased stress placed on the injured area.
Structural weaknesses and muscular imbalances stress surrounding structures and eventually cause pain.
Muscles are left in an injured state due to scar tissue buildup. As you continue to move, you place stress on the body in its new compensated position and are prone to re-injury.
Our goal is simple: to resolve injury, getting you back to a pain free lifestyle as quickly as possible. We know that you have a choice when it comes to healthcare providers, and we’d like to thank you for choosing Summit Spine and Sport to assist you.

Myofascial Release (MFR)
Myofascial Release is a soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. This movement based massage treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. MFR involves taking muscles or other tissues through their full range of motion while tension is applied. This forces shortened tissues to lengthen back to their normal size. MFR aims to relax contracted muscles, which, eliminates pain, restores motion, and removes adhesions or scar tissue.
Chiropractic care aims to affect joints that have lost normal motion between them and restore that functionality. This is done by a technique called joint manipulation or chiropractic adjustment. This adjustment helps induce motion in the joint capsule, ligaments, and surrounding tissues. This is done in a very controlled and safe manner. At Summit Spine and Sport, you will go through a thorough exam to determine whether or not joint manipulation is a necessary "part" of your treatment. In some cases, joint mobilization may be more appropriate.
Many acute and chronic injuries involve muscular imbalances and faulty movement patterns. Therapeutic exercises are corrective in nature and aim to address deficiencies that have developed over time as a result of any injury or overuse. Therapeutic exercises are individualized and designed to restore normal muscle function, normal range of motion and improve strength. Resolving soft tissue injury in conjunction with therapeutic exercises helps produce long lasting results.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization has two functions: to break up abnormal densities in tissue (scar tissue) and to reinitiate the first stage of the healing process. Scar tissue is a “patch” at a site of injury and is less flexible than normal tissue. Scar tissue and adhesions in fascia can accumulate over time from overused muscles, acute injury or repetitive stress from everyday activities. A build-up of scar tissue is what most people know as a “knot”. This can cause restricted motion in the tissue, which leads to pain. IASTM uses tools that are designed to detect and breakdown scar tissue and facial restrictions. A known form of ISATM is Graston®.
Transverse Friction Massage (TFM)
Transverse friction massage's purpose is to maintain the mobility within the soft tissue structures of muscle, ligaments, and tendon and to prevent adherent scars from forming. Scar tissue forms when there is inflammation present after an injury or repetitive strain and stress. The presence of scar tissue often leads to increased pain sensitivity and a significant loss of function. It has been shown to increase fibroblastic activity, break down scar tissue, reduce muscle spasm, and remodel collagen. TFM is a deep tissue massage that is applied transversely to the specific tissue involved with the purpose of remodeling scar tissue and restoring proper function to the muscles, ligaments, and tendons.
